Test, lap and sample tubes
Correct labeling in the medical field is extremely important. In particular, the labeling of pharmaceutical and biological tubes is crucial for an efficient process flow. Tubes are used in pharmaceutical facilities for a variety of purposes. They are used as test tubes in doctor's offices, clinics, laboratories and blood banks. Manual labeling means that the labels are often inaccurately or incorrectly applied to the tube.
Errors in the labeling of laboratory samples are often the cause of inefficient processes. Improperly labeled tubes cannot be processed in the laboratory. The consequences of labeling, identification and assignment are often underestimated.
Labeling of tubes
Proper labeling of pharmaceutical tubes is extremely important. The criteria vary depending on the application, purpose and area of application of the tubes. Correct labeling is a prerequisite for test tubes, for example, in order to be able to provide results quickly and reliably.
Sample vessels, for example, are correctly labeled if they meet the following criteria:
Free view of the content
It must be possible to check the fill level
Screw cap can be removed unhindered
If, for example, the tube and label do not jam or stick in the centrifuge
In the case of sample vessels, the label is applied precisely and lengthwise to the sample tube. It must not be applied all around or at an angle. It must be possible to remove the cover unhindered. The label cannot be used as a closure label, so it closes the lid and tube.
Correct and precise labeling is essential. Tubes are often a challenge for conventional labeling systems due to their cylindrical shape. However, the correct labeling is particularly important, for example, in order to assign and evaluate samples as quickly as possible in the test laboratory. Labeling systems that have been specially developed for labeling tubes can help.
Labeller for tube labelling
The semi-automatic labeling system TNC-DS from b + b is used to precisely label individual tubes. For example, test tubes can be easily and individually labeled after a sample has been taken.
With the fully automatic labeling system RML60pharma from b + b, tubes are precisely labeled around the circumference. The tubes are fed to the labeling system via a sorting and feeding station and separated. The tubes are transported to the labeling station via a conveyor belt. In comparison to semi-automatic systems, a higher number of pieces can be achieved here. With both labeling models, the tubes can be labeled lengthways as well as all around.
Imprint of variable data
All labeling systems can optionally be equipped with printing units. By integrating these, variable data can be applied to the labels inline. Different printing processes are used depending on the material and size of the label, print image, resolution and speed:
Thermal transfer printing
Thermal inkjet printing
Laser printing

Barcode labels to identify the sample
Barcode labels provide extensive data and thus simplify processes. Labeling tubes with barcode labels, for example, ensures that the samples are reliably identified. In this case, they serve as an important information carrier for the test laboratory. The barcode label must always be attached to the primary vessel; this is the only way to ensure clear identification and ensure fast patient care.
Applying the barcode label to the lid, the outer packaging or the transport container means that the sample cannot be identified.
Barcode labels can contain a variety of information, such as:
Encrypted patient data
Manufacturing dates
Withdrawal data
Expiration dates
EAN or barcodes
Batch number
Further data
A clear assignment is therefore necessary. Label material and label adhesives play a major role in the pharmaceutical and medical sectors in particular. We would be happy to advise you on finding the right label. b + b is your partner for complete solutions for labeling and marking Sarstedt tubes.
